"I'm a complete self-confessed sceptic..." How One Client Discovered That Healthy Eating Doesn't Have to Be Hard

One of my recent clients described themselves as a "complete self-confessed sceptic" before starting their nutrition journey with me.

To be honest, that’s fine.  I like a challenge and I knew that the results would be all the more rewarding!

Most people have tried countless diets, read conflicting advice online and been promised miracle solutions that never seem to last. A healthy dose of scepticism is understandable.

This client came to me with a list of things that had been bothering them for a while. Nothing dramatic, just lots of little frustrations that were affecting how they felt day to day. They were struggling with afternoon energy slumps, relying on antacids regularly, carrying extra weight and feeling confused about what they should be eating.

Many people accept these things as part of getting older or being busy. They reach for another coffee when energy dips, take an antacid when digestion feels uncomfortable and promise themselves they'll start eating better next week.  The fact is that these issues are often connected.

As a naturopathic nutritionist, I'm always interested in the bigger picture. Rather than looking at symptoms in isolation, I want to understand what's going on underneath. How are you eating? How are you sleeping? What are your stress levels like? Are you moving your body regularly? Are you getting the nutrients you need?

When we start joining the dots, things often begin to make a lot more sense.

What I loved about working with this client was that we didn't need anything extreme. There were no complicated meal plans, no food policing and no expectation of perfection. We simply made small, manageable changes that fitted into real life and over time, those small changes added up.

Their afternoon energy improved. They no longer felt dependent on antacids. They started making healthier choices without feeling deprived. They lost weight without feeling like they were constantly on a diet and, perhaps most importantly, they felt more confident about food.

One of my favourite parts of their feedback was hearing how the changes had influenced the rest of the family too. When one person starts feeling better and making positive choices, it often has a ripple effect on everyone around them.

That's why I don't believe in one-size-fits-all nutrition advice. We have different lifestyles, preferences, challenges and health goals. What works brilliantly for one person may not work for someone else. My role is to help people find an approach that works for them, whether that involves nutrition, lifestyle changes, targeted supplements, functional testing to explore possible root causes in more detail.

If there's one thing I'd love you to take away from this story, it's that healthy eating shouldn't feel like a punishment.

It should help you feel energised, nourished and confident in the choices you're making.

Client Feedback

"I’ve known Heather for many years, and after discovering her passion for nutritional therapy, what started as a quick five-minute chat soon turned into a full 12-week nutrition journey. As a complete self-confessed sceptic, I decided to leave everything in Heather’s hands and to simply “trust the process.”

I came to her with a list of minor health issues that had been bothering me for some time. Heather listened carefully and responded with genuine understanding, knowledge, and conviction. Through small, manageable swaps and tweaks to my diet and supplements, she taught and guided me every step of the way.

I now understand what I’m eating, and why. Heather addressed every single point on my original “hit list,” from my afternoon energy slumps to constant reliance on antacids. She even helped influence my children’s approach to healthy eating and self-care.

Today, I make better choices without feeling like I’m missing out. I’ve lost weight, have more energy to exercise, and feel more positive about food and life in general. I’ve enjoyed every step, Heather made it interesting and effortless, a pleasurable experience with a hugely positive outcome!"

If you're fed up with feeling tired, confused about what to eat or reliant on quick fixes just to get through the day, I'd love to help.

Together we can create a personalised, realistic plan that works for your life, without taking all the joy out of food.
